Being an ex civil servant I had always gone with LV because you get good rates but when I retired two years ago SAGA offered a stunning deal on the cars but a mighty poor one for the house so I went to SAGA. When the car insurance came up for renewal this year SAGAs was almost twice last years quote and when I queried this they said it was because last years was a one off offer to get us to join. We've just gone through a similar process for my wife's car. Paid £550ish last year for cover on her Golf. This years renewal came in at over £800. No claims or changes to circumstances in the last year, and they really didn't seem to have any explanation as to the increase.
We hunted round (as we do every year) and managed to renew it for the same price elsewhere.
You're quite right though - there's no incentive to stay loyal to that insurer, and there's no logic to the quotation figures they provide - one was in excess of £2000!

The big downside for me is the lack of POIs. The google 'My Maps' has a hard limit of 1000 points per layer, and the maps app will only let you enable 2 layers at any one time.

To put this into perspective, my Good Beer Guide poi list of 4,500 entries, and the speed camera databases approach 12,000.

I had one of these last night, and concur. The delayed action is interesting, as I too found it only mildly spicy until I was about halfway through, when my eyes and nose began to run. I also noticed some quite potent posterior "afterburn" today, if you know what I mean. :)

uPnP is enabled on the router, but you can't (apparently) get to the Sure Signal's interface even though I've located it's IP address on the network. Vodafone's documentation is poor at best and complicated to understand at worst.

I was going to ask if you had a spare 4-port DSL router I could borrow for a couple of days just to see if it's a conflict issue with my D-Link router.

If it is, I'll buy another router that works. The Sure Signal has actually worked for about 30 minutes in total today and I can really see its benefits in my house, but for the rest of the day all it's done is shut down my 'net connection repeatedly!

Hey Mark,

Check UPNP is enabled on your router. Chances are that the Sure Signal will need some non standard port forwarding in order to work. I dont know IF you can connect to this device via a web frontend, but if you can then check to make sure(sic) that it too is enabled for UPNP.

I have to admit I've seen a couple of similar posts about D-Links not working with the device. Very frustrating.

However, I have moved the device inside my network to a Belkin switch. The D-Link now connects to the web happily, but the Belkin switch has gone down, taking out the devices plugged in to it at the same time.

I'm now wondering if the VSS is faulty itself! Although it did connect briefly earlier today and all worked very well.

I suspect that there is a basic incompatibility with D-Link's firewalling. My own observation of the various complaints suggests [only to me] that there is a bit of a trend around D-Link. I have my Sure Signal working through a Netgear that is supporting both the VPNs required of the Sure Signal itself and my other kit. It was a bit of a chore working it all out.

I see you've posted on Vodafone's forum - check out a post by Hands0n (me) and you may be able to work out how to configure the D-Link from that.

Certainly, while it is plug n play for many that does not seem [to me] to be the case where (a) another VPN exists or (b) the router is a D-Link.

Sorry for all of the 'qualifications' but the association to D-Link has not been declared by anyone else, yet.

I think it just shows how the BBC has made such a mess of its scheduling recently. Strictly limps on, despite trying to take on the Factor - and failing miserably.

Only 4.7m watched Sports Personality of the Year - compared to 19m who watched Joe on ITV.

At least Top Gear schedulers knew which side their bread was buttered.

That said, I thought Giggs was a worthy winner. He's played for what must be nearly 20 years and just seems to get better with age. While he may not make the papers much, you'll never see him mouthing off, or cheating, so he's a great example to kids. F1 drivers are always going to struggle for votes.

BTW - these aren't the views of The Publican, but those of web editor, Roland Ellison. Bloody Google thinks it knows everything...
